Vellum land grant certificate for 400 16/1000 acres of land situated on the border of the River Raisin and land of Jean Batiste Jereaume's land, in Michigan Territory, signed by President James Madison and edward Tiffin, Commissioner of the General Land Office, June 17, 1812. The certificate is printed with writing filling in the blanks.

He was an early settler of Chillicothe, Ohio and also served as U.S. Commissioner of Public Lands (1812-1814) and Surveyor General of the Northwest Territory (1814-1829). McDougall (dates unknown) was a Detroit merchant and a cousin of Francois Navarre. He served as sheriff, Justice of the Peace in Wayne County (Mich.), Colonel of the Michigan militia, and other offices.
